Chanterelle Pants Class (Advanced Beginner to Intermediate Sewing)

Chanterelle Pants Class (Advanced Beginner to Intermediate Sewing)

The Chanterelle Pants/Shorts by Sew Liberated are super popular for a reason: they are flowy, soft, comfortable, and make for a great project for confident beginner sewists. These elastic waist pants come in three different views – shorts, wide leg pants, and barrel leg pants – with lots of ease, roomy pockets, and opportunity to make them exactly how you want them.

This is a four-session class. Please ensure you can attend all four sessions.

As prerequisites to take this class, you should know how to operate a sewing machine, including:

  • how to wind a bobbin
  • how to thread a sewing machine
  • how to backstitch
  • how to sew a seam

Essentially, if you have completed a couple small projects, are looking to ease back into sewing, or have taken a “Learn to Sew” class at Fabrications, this class is for you!

You will learn how to:

  • plan a garment sewing project, take your measurements, and choose pattern size
  • read and follow a sewing pattern
  • sew patch pockets and/or a pocket bag
  • sew a waistband

You will need:

  • tracing paper
  • Fabric: consider chambray, linen, cotton, or a light- to mid-weight twill/denim. Fabrics should have a weight of no more than 7.9 oz/268gsm.
    • For 45” wide fabric, 1.5m to 3.75m depending on size and view
    • For 54” wide fabric, 1.25m to 3.25m depending on size and view
  • Exact fabric requirements can be found here. (Note: the pattern itself is included in the class fee, you do not have to purchase it)
  • Matching thread
  • 1.5m of 2” wide elastic
  • 1/4yd lightweight fusible interfacing, woven or non-woven

We will provide:

  • a copy of the pattern (please choose which size of pattern you would like - see picture for size chart)
  • a sewing machine for in-class use
  • sewing tools for in-class use
  • lightweight cardstock for pocket templates
