Learn to Sew - Quilted Pillow Cover Class (Beginner - Sewing)

Have you been wanting to learn to sew? Come and join us and learn the basics while creating a unique decorative pillow cover to jazz up any room in your home. Whether you want to learn to sew garments, quilts or bags, this class is the perfect first step to help you learn some of the most important basics. Plus you’ll end up with a piece to show off at home, that’s a win win in our books. You’ll also end up with some skills to help you start your sewing journey. 

This is a two session class.  Please make sure you can attend both sessions.

There are no prerequisites to take this class, just show up with your supplies, learn and have fun!

You will learn how to:

  • Thread our classroom sewing machine
  • Sew straight lines and follow a seam allowance
  • Cut out a beginner project
  • Sew pivot turns
  • Use a ¼” foot
  • Assemble a basic quilt block
  • Lightly quilt a basic block
  • Follow simple assembly instructions

You will need: 

  • 0.5m of quilting cotton
    • this is the back and main center piece of the pillow cover
  • 0.25m each of three coordinating fabrics.
    • These 3 fabrics are used to build the quilt block.  
  • Matching thread (or choose a contrasting colour for easier visualization)

We will provide: 

  • A written copy of the class instructions
  • 18" down alternative pillow form 
  • 19”x19” piece of batting.
  • All the necessary sewing tools
  • Use of a sewing machine during class.
