Sew A Knit Tee On Your Sewing Machine Class (Advanced Beginner)
Take your sewing skills to the next level by learning to tackle knit fabrics with ease!! Join us in making your very own t-shirt! In this class, you will learn how to sew a t-shirt using a sewing machine, with the pattern of your choice (suggestions below). You’ll explore techniques for working with knit fabrics, achieving professional-looking seams, and finishing touches like hemming and neckbands. Leave with a handmade t-shirt you’ll be proud to wear and newfound confidence in garment-making!
Prerequisites:
- Must know the basics of using a sewing machine, like threading and winding a bobbin.
- This class is best suited for someone who has a few small projects under their belt.
You will learn:
- the difference between knit and woven fabrics
- how to cut out knit garments
- the stitches to use when sewing knit garments
- how to take your measurements and choose your size
- how to handle stretching bands to fit
- how to hem knits
You will need:
- tracing paper
- 1.5m of knit fabric
- (amount is dependent on size and pattern - check your pattern for the yardage needed - ask us for help if you need)
- we strongly suggest a cotton lycra jersey (95% cotton/5% lycra). You can see what we have available here
- matching thread - we suggest polyester
- a sewing pattern for a t-shirt
